–During a sentencing hearing Wednesday in Kossuth County District Court, family members of Algona Police Officer Kevin Cram had the opportunity to speak directly to the man who shot and killed him on September 13th, 2023. Lara Cram, the slain officer’s widow, made a victim impact statement and told Kyle Lou Ricke how his actions that night have devastated her family.

Mrs. Cram says no celebration will ever be the same without her late husband.

Before concluding her remarks, Mrs. Cram reminded the defendant that nothing will be able to bring her husband back.

A statement on behalf of Kevin Cram’s brother Randy was read by Sarah Harms, a Victim Witness Coordinator for the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.

Another statement was read on behalf of Cram’s son Weston by Kossuth County Victim Witness Coordinator Cinnamon Mawdsley.

Ricke offered a short apology to the family before receiving a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, the mandatory sentence for a conviction on charges of 1st Degree Murder.
