–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors set the date and time for a budget amendment hearing at their meeting on Tuesday. The amendment to the current fiscal year will restore funding to the county’s libraries, which had been cut by about 75% from the previous budget year. It will also restore around $95,000 in funding to the county’s Emergency Management Commission. The board met in closed session with County Attorney Todd Holmes earlier this month after members of the commission questioned whether the supervisors have the legal authority to reduce their funding. Kossuth County Auditor Tammy Eden says now that those issues are resolved, they can move forward with the process of amending the budget.

The supervisors agreed to restore funding to the Emergency Management Commission during a joint workshop that was held last week. The item will now be placed on the board’s agenda for September 17th.
