–One person was killed, and three others suffered injuries following a two vehicle collision Friday afternoon east of Emmetsburg .
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 32-year-old Desiree Angela Sternhagen of Janesville, Minnesota was southbound on 480th Avenue just before 3 PM. The accident report states that Sternhagen failed to stop at the intersection with US Highway 18, and collided with a westbound vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Mathia Kay Nieves of Emmetsburg.
Both Sternhagen and Nieves were injured in the collision and transported by ambulance to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.
A passenger in Nieves’ vehicle, identified as 67-year-old Ernest Eugene Manwarren of Emmetsburg was killed. The accident report states that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A second passenger in the Nieves’ vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Justin Eugene Manwarren or Emmetsburg, was also injured and taken by ambulance to Palo Alto County Hospital.
The accident remains under investigation.
