Winnebago County Girl Injured in Weekend UTV Crash

–A Lake Mills girl has been identified as the person injured when a UTV rolled into a private pond Saturday in rural Winnebago County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 11-year-old Mae Helgeson of Lake Mills was operating a 2018 Polaris Ranger near a private pond around 5:30 PM Saturday. The accident report states the driver’s side tires entered the bank of the pond, causing the UTV to roll on its side.

Helgeson was pinned under the UTV following the rollover. Emergency personnel performed life saving measures, and she was taken by Mercy Air Med to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Mills Fire and Police Departments, and the Forest City Ambulance Service.
