–Early enrollment numbers for the Algona Community School District have administrators cautiously optimistic as forecasted drops may not materialize. Superintendent Joe Carter addressed the school board during their meeting this week, and he says the numbers are still unofficial at this point.

One thing the early numbers can do is provide a comparison to last year, and Carter says they were expecting a significant drop at Algona High School.

Early numbers show a slight drop at Bryant Elementary with a larger group leaving for Lucia Wallace this year, and similar numbers at Bertha Godfrey. Carter says the numbers will be good for the district if they are still at this level when they are certified.

Preliminary numbers show 434 students at the High School and 422 at the Middle School. The Sophomore class has the highest total in the High School at 117, while the 8th grade class is the biggest in the Middle School with 116. The numbers are not official until the district can certify its enrollment on October 1st.
