According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 63-year-old Shelby Roe of Glencoe, Minnesota was traveling northbound on HWY 169 in a 2024 Honda Civic near Lakota around 6:45 PM Saturday. Roe told Deputies that he was driving at close to 60 mph when he was passed by a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Roe stated that another motorcycle, this one driven by 42-year-old Elias Bromeland of Elmore, Minnesota, also attempted to pass him when it struck the bumper of his car.

Bromeland lost control of his 2003 Harley Davidson and entered the west ditch, where he was thrown off the bike along with his passenger, identified as 39-year-old Kelly Bromeland.

Elias Bromeland was taken by ambulance to United Hospital in Blue Earth with what were described as incapacitating injuries. Kelly Bromeland was transported by Mercy Air Med to MeryOne Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

Law Enforcement obtained a search warrant to conduct a blood draw on Bromeland after he told EMS personnel he had been drinking. Another motorcycle rider traveling with Bromeland told law enforcement he had been drinking prior to the accident. For now, he has been cited for Reckless Driving and Failure to Maintain Control, and more charges are possible.
