–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors will allow Sheriff Roger Fisher to offer some hiring incentives to qualified candidates as he tries to fill three current openings on his staff. Fisher says their initial applicant pool for the three openings was 14, but after administering the civil service exam and conducting background checks, they only have two qualified applicants.
Both applicants already have their certification, which means Kossuth County wouldn’t have to pay for their training, but Fisher says there is also a problem with each that he needs some help to solve.
Fisher says his department is not in a position to pay off the full amount of both contracts.
The board will allow the Sheriff’s Department to cover up to 50% of those buyouts if the applicants accept positions here in Kossuth County. Fisher also received permission to draw up a policy for the Sheriff’s Office to offer employment without requiring the applicant to move into Kossuth County. The Sheriff says having that policy on paper might allow him to fill another opening with an interested party who lives within 10 miles of the county line.
