–An Emmetsburg woman is facing a felony charge after being taken into custody late last week near Algona.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies received a report of a female who was passed out at the Plumb Creek pits around 4:30 PM on Thursday, September 19th. The caller stated they when they tried to wake the female, she attempted to tase them.
Deputies responded to the scene, and found 29-year-old Esther Erica Poeppe of Emmetsburg, on the ground. EMS personnel were paged to the scene, and Deputies noticed a strong smell of alcohol as they tried to revive Poeppe.
A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court states that Poeppe refused transport by EMS but agreed to be taken to Kossuth Regional Health Center by the Deputy on scene. While in route to KRHC, Poeppe tried to retrieve her taser from the Deputies pocket, and refused to let go when instructed.
Poeppe allegedly fought with Law Enforcement and EMS personnel, and the complaint goes on to say she attempted to bite an Algona Police Officer while they were trying to load her onto a cot to receive medical attention.
Poeppe is facing charges of Interference with Official Acts with a Dangerous Weapon (Class D Felony), Possession of a Dangerous Weapon while Under the Influence (Serious Misdemeanor), Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations (Serious Misdemeanor), and Consumption of Alcohol in a Public Place (Simple Misdemeanor). She was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance.
Poeppe is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Kossuth County District Court on September 30th.
