–A Bancroft man was killed in a single vehicle rollover accident Tuesday morning in rural Kossuth County.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in around 9:25 AM Tuesday reporting an accident about 2 miles southwest of Bancroft along 360th Street. Bancroft Fire and EMS responded to the scene, along with Kossuth County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS personnel.

Upon arrival, law enforcement and EMS found 53-year-old James Heldorfer had died at the scene after being partially ejected from the vehicle.

An investigation determined that Heldorfer failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing his vehicle to overturn. The accident report states that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was partially ejected through the passenger side window. Heldorfer was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and extrication equipment had to be used to remove his body.

The first responders were assisted at the scene by the Kossuth County Medical Examiners office.

The accident remains under investigation.
