–Candidates for the District #5 seat on the Kossuth County Board of Supervisors took part in a live forum Tuesday night at the Algona Public Library, hosted by the local chapter of the AAUW. Amber Garman, Bruce Meinders and Mel Haler all took part, answering various questions for over an hour. Each of the candidates was asked what issue they would want to work on immediately after taking up office along with other top priorities, and each mentioned the budget.

Mel Haler says the lack of transparency from board members is concerning.

Bruce Meinders says set back distances should be a concern as well.

Amber Garman says a lack of answers has many people wondering what is going on with the county financially.

The District #5 board seat is one of only two contested local races in this November’s general election. The other is for the Iowa House District #9 seat between Republican incumbent Henry Stone and Democratic party challenger Christian Schlaerth.
