–As October winds down, the Lakota based Hunting with Heroes organization is finalizing plans for their fall hunt and Veteran’s Day drive through event. Hunting with Heroes co-founder Bernie Becker tells KLGA News that they want to make sure every area veteran or widow of veteran gets everything they need for a free Thanksgiving meal.

Becker says they served 514 veterans during their drive through event in Lakota last year, and they will have enough supplies to serve another 500 this year.

The Veteran’s Day drive through event will run from 3-6 PM on November 11th, and Becker says they try to move people through the line in Lakota as fast as possible.

Among the volunteers helping with that drive through event will be the wounded veterans who will spend several days hunting the fields of northwest Iowa. Becker says they have 4 or 5 new wounded vets from the Marine Corp, and another 4 or 5 that have been part of the program previously that will be participating in this year’s hunt.

The wounded vets will be hunting fields near Algona, Whittemore, Lakota, Thompson and Buffalo Center from November 7-10th before assisting with the drive through event on November 11th. Any veteran or widow of veteran can receive the complete thanksgiving meal that day in Lakota completely free of charge.
