–Officials with the Emmetsburg School District say they will continue their efforts to construct a new elementary building after a bond issue vote came up short of approval Tuesday. Superintendent Corey Jenness tells KLGA News that there is still a lot to be optimistic about regarding the future of the project.
The $29.5 Millon project would be used to replace the aging West Elementary building. Jenness says now they will look at making some adjustments to their plans.
This summer, the Emmetsburg School Board approved a land purchase that would be the site of this new building. Jenness says the district has a 2-year agreement on the land.
The vote ended up with 1,247 in favor and 1,211 against, meaning the referendum fell short of the 60% approval mark needed for passage.
