–The Algona Police Department welcomed a new patrol officer to their ranks earlier this month, as Chief Bo Miller introduced Leah Johnson to the City Council during their meeting last week. Johnson, who is originally from the Garner area, also introduced herself to the council and city staff during that meeting, which was also her first day on the job.

Johnson is certified through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and comes to Algona after serving most recently on the Mason City Police Department. She earned an AA degree in Criminal Justice from Iowa Central Community College and has also worked as a jailer in both Winnebago and Wright counties.
