–No injuries were reported in a 2-vehicle collision early Thursday morning along US Highway 18 north of Whittemore.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Johan Van Rooyen of Bancroft was westbound in the 100 block of Highway 18 in a 2011 Mack semi just after 5:30 AM. The accident report states that Van Rooyen was unaware that the tarp roll bar on his trailer was hanging off the driver’s side of the vehicle and sticking out into the eastbound lane.

At that time, 42-year-old Jayme Baker of Emmetsburg was eastbound on Highway 18 in a 2018 Ford F150 Super Crew truck. Baker told Deputies he did not see the roll bar hanging off of Van Rooyen’s trailer and ended up colliding with it as they passed each other.

Damage to Baker’s truck was estimated at $7,000 while damage to Van Rooyen’s semi was estimated at $1,000. Neither driver reported any injuries as both were using their seatbelt at the time of the collision.
