–The Iowa Department of Education recently released the performance profile for each school district across the state in an effort to highlight their strengths and weaknesses. The rankings place each district into categories ranging from Exceptional on the highest end to Priority/Comprehensive on the low end. Algona Schools Superintendent Joe Carter says each of the district’s buildings fall in between, in part due to changes in how the rankings are figured.
Carter says Algona High School saw their rating drop slightly for a couple of reasons.
The Algona Middle School received a rating of Commendable, the highest for the district.
Each of Algona’s Elementary buildings have ratings of acceptable. The West Bend-Mallard School District received Commendable rankings for their Elementary and High School buildings, while their Middle School falls into the Acceptable category. The North Union Elementary building saw the highest ranking in our area, earning the High-Performance category. North Union’s High School and Middle School buildings were each ranked Commendable, while the North Kossuth Elementary building was also ranked as Commendable.
