–As electric scooters become a more popular mode of transportation for kids around town, law enforcement officials want to keep families updated what is and is not allowed. Algona Police Chief Bo Miller addressed the matter with the City Council during their meeting on Monday, and he says safety is their top priority.
Even though no license is required to operate an electric scooter, Miller says you still need to follow the rules of the road.
Miller says there is an area around town where bikes and scooters are prohibited.
Bikes and scooters are just fine on sidewalks anywhere else in town. Miller says they hope to see compliance over these next few months while kids are out of school.
Any riders found to be in violation of traffic laws can have their bike or scooter seized for 14 days, and if another offense occurs, the equipment can be seized for up to 30 days. If you have any questions, you can contact the Algona Police Department at 515-295-3515 or click on the link below
