–The Algona Fire Department will conduct a controlled burn Monday evening at a house along West College Street. Mike Sabin with the Algona Fire Department tells KLGA News they have worked with the city in the past to conduct these controlled burns, which can be extremely valuable from a training perspective.

The residence is located at 607 West College Street, and Sabin says they will be doing mostly defensive training exercises due to the condition of the home.

While there are more than a few delipidated properties around town that neighbors would like to see burned and leveled, Sabin says not every house is an ideal candidate for a controlled burn.

The city of Algona has owned this particular property for over a year, and Sabin says they have had the opportunity to scout the location and prepare for Monday’s burn.

While the sight of a house on fire is likely to draw spectators, Sabin says they are asking the public to stay away from that area Monday night.

The burn will only take place if weather conditions are favorable. Anyone with questions can contact the Algona Fire Department by calling 515-295-3642 or Algona City Hall at 515-295-2411.
