–A central Iowa school recently brought home some awards from the state fair after restoring a tractor that belonged to a Whittemore family. Kevin Cooper serves as the Agriculture Education Instructor and FFA Advisor at Nevada High School. One of the things his students do on a regular basis is restore antique tractors. Cooper says they learned of this particular tractor through Whittemore native Jim Walker, who served as Superintendent for the Nevada School District.
The Farmall MD tractor was originally owned by Earl Schmitt of Whittemore before being donated by his son Jim. Cooper says the tractor dates back to the 1940’s and had seen better days.

Cooper says his students put in countless hours restoring the tractor.
The tractor was entered in the Iowa State Fair FFA Ag Mechanics competition on Friday, August 8th, where it won reserve champion. Now, Cooper says they will look to sell the tractor.

Cooper says projects like this help students develop skills that can make them successful later in life.
