–A Kossuth County farmer and software consultant recently joined the race for the Republican Party nomination in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Christian Schlaefer lives with his wife on their family farm near Lakota, and he made his intentions known last week, officially kicking off his campaign with an event at the Clay County Fair. During an interview this week with KLGA News, Schlaefer says it was his wife that brought him to Kossuth County.

Even though he’s only 29-years-old, Schlaefer says he has been active in politics at the state and national level over the last several years.

Schlaefer says maintaining the ideals that President Trump has brought to the Republican Party should be a priority moving forward.

Four other candidates have thrown their hat in the ring after current 4th District Congressman Randy Feesntra announced he would look to run for Governor in 2026. Schlaefer says he is the most conservative of the group.

During his appearance at the Clay County Fair last weekend, Schlaefer called for all the candidates in the race to participate in a public debate.

Siouxland Chamber of Commerce Director Chris McGowan, Iowa House Majority Leader Matt Windschitl of Missouri Valley, Humboldt County farmer Kyle Larson, and Iowa Tea Party Founder Ryan Rhodes of Ames have all announced intentions to seek the GOP nomination in the 4th district.
