–A Wesley man was taken into custody late last week on drug charges in connection with a traffic accident from early February.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies arrested 62-year-old Patrick Todd Carter just after 9:30 AM on Thursday, September 11th for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine and Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana.

A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court states that Carter was involved in a single vehicle rollover accident along US Highway 18 near Sexton on February 2nd. At that time, Carter told Deputies that he swerved to miss a deer and lost control. When asked if he had consumed any drugs or alcohol prior to the accident, Carter said he had used a THC Vape pen and had a few drinks at an area bar that night.

At that time, Deputies obtained a warrant to take a blood sample from Carter to test for intoxicants. That blood sample was sent to the DCI Crime Lab, along with a glass container that was found during a search of Carter’s vehicle, which allegedly contained Marijuana and Methamphetamine.

Deputies later learned that the crime lab never received the blood sample, as the package was lost or damaged in transit. Charges were filed in late August after the other test results came back.

Carter was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Kossuth County District Court on Monday, September 22nd.
