–The City of Algona will conduct smoke testing this week in specific areas of town as a part of their sanitary sewer system evaluation program. Deputy City Administrator Barb Smith tells KLGA News that smoke testing allows them to determine where the public infrastructure is in need of repair.

The smoke testing will take place between September 29th and October 9th, depending on weather conditions. Smith says it’s possible homeowners in these areas could see some smoke come into their home from a drain in their basement.

The smoke is a non-toxic solution that uses Zinc Chloride and leaves no residue. Smith says if a homeowner does have smoke enter their home, the would like them to call city hall at 515-295-2411. This year the smoke testing will take place in the areas marked in red and silver. More information can also be found at www.algonaiowa.gov.
