Deputy City Administrator Taking Job in Spencer

–Algona’s Deputy City Administrator is leaving her position here for one with the City of Spencer.

The Spencer City Council voted unanimously on Monday to hire Barb Smith as the city’s new Finance Director. Smith submitted her resignation to Algona officials following the vote.

Reports by the Spencer Radio Group indicate that Smith will be able to work from home at least half-time with this new position.

Smith was hired in late November of 2020 to take over as Algona’s Public Works Director, before transitioning into the role of Deputy City Administrator. She had previously served as the City Administrator in Forest City before coming to Algona.
