–An Algona woman has announced intentions to seek a spot in the Iowa Senate next year. Stacy Besch made the announcement Monday night that she will enter the race in Iowa Senate District 5 in 2026 and will challenge current Senator Dave Rowley in the Republican Party primary. In an interview with KLGA News, Besch said her work with Team Iowa over the last five years, talking about the dangers of human trafficking led to her decision.

Besch believes she could do more for Iowans serving in the Senate as opposed to the House.

Senate Republicans passed a bill this spring limiting the use of eminent domain to acquire land for the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline project, the first time they had voted on the issue despite multiple bills over the last few years in the House. While the bill was eventually vetoed by Governor Reynolds, Besch says the reluctance to even bring the matter up for a vote in the senate shows a divide amongst Republicans in that body.

Besch says she intends to get her message out to as many people as she can across the 5th district before the GOP primary next June.

Iowa Senate district 5 includes all of Kossuth, Palo Alto, Emmet, Winnebago, and Dickinson counties, along with the northeastern section of Clay County.
