–Staff members in the Community Health Department at Kossuth Regional Health Center are building a different type of Christmas tree this holiday season, one that will benefit those fighting food insecurity. Cede Becker is a Registered Nurse for Community Health, and she tells KLGA News they are collecting boxes of cereal that will be distributed later this month.
Statistics from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services show around 1,200 Kossuth County residents experience food insecurity. Whether it’s a basic cereal like Cheerios and Corn Flakes, or something with a little more kid appeal, like Fruity Pebbles or Coco Puffs, Becker says they will gladly accept any donations.
If you would like to be entered into the prize drawing, Becker says stop by the Community Health Department during regular business hours.
The cereal will be placed in one of the five food lending boxes around Algona. Those boxes are open to any area residents battling food insecurity and are located on the south side of the KRHC building, near the main entrance at Bishop Garrigan schools, the northside of the Divine Mercy Parish building, First Lutheran Church, and Trinity Lutheran Church.
