–A fundraising effort is underway to assist a Wesley family who was displaced by a house fire early Sunday morning.

Wesley Fire Chief Tracy Studer tells KLGA News they were paged to 308 2nd Street South just after 4:30 AM Sunday. Occupants of the home reported the blaze and sheltered inside vehicles until firefighters arrived a few minutes later.

Studer says flames were visible on all 3 levels of the home upon arrival, at which time they paged the Britt Fire Department for assistance. Firefighters had to go floor to floor to contain the blaze and were on the scene for around two hours.

The occupants of the home told emergency personnel they heard a loud bang and smelled smoke almost immediately afterwards, at which point they called for help. Studer says the fire was electrical, and they believe the home was struck by lightning, with thunderstorms moving through the area at that time before the precipitation changed to snow.

Studer also says they appreciated the assistance from Britt, as firefighters traveled in less-than-ideal conditions to help fight the blaze.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help the family of seven as they have been staying in area hotels this week while attempting to clean up the home. To make a contribution, you can go to www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-rebuild-after-house-fire-ws7k3.
