–Bishop Garrigan is among 75 High Schools across the Iowa receiving recognition from the Secretary of State’s Office for their efforts in registering eligible students to vote.

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate recently announced that more than 5,000 17 and 18-year-olds were registered to vote during the 2025-2026 school year. His office established the Carrie Chapman Catt Award in 2019 to recognize schools that can register 90% or more of their eligible students.

49 schools across the state received the award this year, as Bishop Garrigan is one of just 8 schools who have met that threshold six or more times in the last seven years. Lake Mills High School was recognized for a third time, while West Hancock High School earned their second award.

Twelve schools were recognized for getting 70% of their eligible students registered to vote, while another 7 reached the 50% threshold.

Over 120 schools in Iowa hosted voter registration events as part of the effort to get young voters more involved in the civic process. State law allows 17-year-olds to register if they will turn 18 before the day of the election.
