Summer collegiate baseball returning to Bancroft this year, as the North Iowa Ragin’ Roosters team name and logo were unveiled last night. The Ragin’ Roosters will play in the expedition league, one of 4 teams set to compete this season.

League President Steve Wagner wanted the team’s name to reflect the community.

Summer baseball has a long tradition in the region with the Bancroft Bandits having previously found success in the area. In addition to the Ragin’ Roosters branding, Wagner wanted the team location to be listed as “North Iowa” to expand the teams reach and invite nearby communities to come enjoy the games.

Wagner understands the history of baseball in the area and says that it was a big reason it was important to have a team in Bancroft.

According to Wagner, the team has filled out most of it’s 34 player roster. One of the biggest priorities is finding host families for the players.

In addition to the North Iowa Ragin’ Roosters, the Expedition League will also have the Pierre Trappers, Souris Valley Sabre Dogs, and Red River Pilots competing. The league schedule begins on May 26, and the playoffs begin in early August, as the teams will play a best of 3 format in the postseason. The league will also feature an all-star game that included a home run derby and skills competition.
