After day one of the Iowa High School Athletic Association State Golf Tournament wrapped up, day two never got underway as heavy rain and unplayable course conditions has resulted in the cancellation of day two.
According to the IHSAA rulebook, if 18 holes are played on day one and it is impossible to play day two, the first 18 holes will determine the champion.
With the results for class 1A from the Ames Golf and Country Club now official, North Union sophomore Drew Henderson closes in 9th place in his first career state appearance, one spot away from a state medal, with an 18 hole score of 76 from day one. Four golfers finished tied for 5th at 75, leaving Henderson just one stroke behind medal position.
Henderson shot two over par on the front nine and three over par on the back nine to finish at +5 for the tournament. Over the course of the 18 holes, Henderson recorded two birdies, nine pars, and seven bogeys.
Bishop Garrigan senior Ethan Kuper finishes his Golden Bear career tied for 20th place in class 1A, wrapping up the state competition with a score of 81, also making his first career state tournament appearance.
Kuper shot seven over par on the front nine and three over par on the back nine to end at +10 for the tournament. Kuper recorded two birdies, six pars, eight bogeys, and two double bogeys.
