Garman, Haas win Seats on Board of Supervisors

–Amber Garman won the District 5 Board of Supervisors seat Tuesday in the only contested race in Kossuth County, defeating Mel Haler and Bruce Meinders.

After winning the Republican party primary election in June, Garman received 893 votes in the general election, which was nearly 50% of the votes cast in the race. Independent candidate Mel Haler finished second with 510 votes, while Democrat Bruce Meinders ended up with 388.

Howard Haas won the District 2 seat on the Board of Supervisors, as he was unopposed Tuesday after winning the Republican primary back in June.

Sheriff Roger Fisher and Auditor Tammy Eden each won a 2nd term in office on Tuesday, with each running unopposed.

In the race for Iowa House District 9, which covers most of Kossuth County, Republican Henry Stone won reelection, defeating Christian Schlaerth. Stone ended up taking 73% of the vote, defeating Schlaerth 11,737 to 4,262.

Representative John Wills of Spirit Lake won reelection to his seat in Iowa House District 10, which covers the southwest portion of Kossuth County.

Overall voter turnout in Kossuth County was nearly 77% for the general election, with 8,436 votes cast from 11,015 registered voters.
