–A pair of traffic stops Friday night in the Bancroft area ended with two different men arrested on a host of charges.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies arrested 37-year-old Felix Maldonado Aguilar of Bancroft around 6 PM Friday. A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court states that Aguilar was stopped after being observed driving recklessly in Bancroft, at which time Deputies learned his driver’s license has been suspended.
He has been charged with Driving while Suspended and Operating without a Vehicle Interlock, which had been required after Aguilar was charged with OWI last year. Aguilar was booked into the Kossuth County Jail. He will have a preliminary court hearing on June 2nd.
Around 10:30 PM, Deputies arrested 42-year-old Kevin James Laubenthal, also of Bancroft.
A criminal complaint alleges that Laubenthal was observed driving at a high rate of speed after passing an unmarked law enforcement vehicle. The complaint goes on to say that Laubenthal nearly lost control of the vehicle and continued driving for nearly a mile after the Deputy activated his lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
The Deputy states that the smell of alcohol was coming from the vehicle, and Laubenthal admitted to drinking around 10 beers before driving before refusing to take a field sobriety test. He was charged with OWI 1st offense, Speeding, and Having an Open Container, and was booked into the Kossuth County Jail. He is scheduled to have a preliminary court hearing on June 12th.
