–An Algona High School student and an area business owner were recognized Thursday evening for their contributions to the community. The Spirit of Algona Youth award and the Algona Impact award were created this year by the Founder’s Day committee as replacements for the Heritage Award. The winners were announced by Mayor Rick Murphy ahead of the Voices from the Past event at Riverview Cemetery, with Owen Orban selected for the youth award.
Along with his awards, Owen serves as the Technology Director at his church while staying busy with school activities.
Sarah Mayer was selected as the Impact Award winner for her involvement in a wide array of business and volunteer activities.
