–Kossuth County residents will be able to learn more about local cancer cases during an online forum next week. Kossuth County Community Health is partnering with the Iowa Cancer Consortium to present statistics from the 99 counties project, which breaks down what types of cancer cases are being reported around the state. Mary Charlton is a Professor in the University of Iowa’s College of Public Health and the Director of the Iowa Cancer Registry, and she tells KLGA News these forums are a great way to interact with the public and break down the information on a county-by-county basis.

Charlton says they have held over 70 presentations to date, with participation varying each time.

Data from the Iowa Cancer Registry shows Kossuth County averages just over 100 new cancer cases each year, which is one of the lowest in the state. Charlton says they will go over these numbers and look at which types of cancer occur more frequently in the area.

Charlton hopes any area resident looking for cancer-related information will participate.

The forum will be held from 11 AM-12 PM on Tuesday, July 21st and will be livestreamed via Zoom. Registration links are available on the Kossuth County Community Health Facebook page and at the link below. https://iowacancerconsortium.wildapricot.org/event-6724717
