–Students in the Algona Community School District will not be able to use their cell phones or other electronic devices while classes are in session beginning this fall. The Algona School Board voted to update the district’s cell phone policy during their meeting on Monday. Superintendent Joe Carter addressed the board prior to the vote and laid out what they had implemented three years ago.

Carter says many schools are going above and beyond state regulations when it comes to their student cell phone policy.

The new cell phone policy will prohibit students from using their devices between 8:10 AM and afternoon dismissal.

Parents and students will receive more information about the new policy during registration and back-to-school events in August so they can plan accordingly. Exceptions can be made for students who need an electronic device to monitor a health condition for instance, and parents will be asked to communicate those needs to administrators so arrangements can be made.
