–Voters in the Emmetsburg School District will go to the polls on Tuesday as efforts continue to construct a new building to replace the aging West Elementary. Emmetsburg Superintendent Cory Jenness tells KLGA News that they are asking voters for permission to raise the district’s debt service levy.
After a nearly $30 Million bond issue fell short of the necessary 60% voter approval in November, the district sought answers from the voting public. Jenness says they received feedback through a survey in early February that showed many residents were concerned about potential tax increases.
Other concerns raised in the survey centered around where the new building would be located and what would become of West Elementary when a new school is operational. Jenness says they are working on a plan right now to answer those questions.
Polls will be open from 7 AM-8 PM on Tuesday. The measure would need 60% voter approval to pass, as the initial referendum secured just 51% support back in November. For more information, you can go to www.e-hawks.org.
