–Kossuth County Conservation has recently added mowed trails for hikers to use at one of the area’s newest nature preserves. Conservation Director Kendall Stumme tells KLGA News the land that is now the Buffalo Creek Nature Preserve was donated by Rodney Schmidt when he passed away in 2024.
The east parcel of land has been designated the David Rike Public Hunting Area and is open for bow hunting only. Stumme says anyone who stops by the nature preserve can see plenty of wildlife.
Stumme says they were hoping to have the trails completed earlier this year, but weather conditions made that impossible.
The Buffalo Creek Nature Preserve is located about 5.5 miles northeast of Burt near the intersection of 320th Street and 165th Avenue. There are trails on the north and south sides of Buffalo Creek, and parking is available near the trails on each side.
