–Voters in the North Kossuth and Emmetsburg School District’s approved ballot measures during special elections on Tuesday.
Leaders in the North Kossuth District sought an increase in their physical plant and equipment levy (PPEL) to help fund renovations to the building in Swea City. A total of 326 ballots were cast, with 182 voting in favor, or roughly 56%. Unlike school bond referendums, PPEL votes in Iowa only need a simple majority of votes to pass.
Voters in the Emmetsburg School District overwhelmingly voted to renew the district’s Revenue Purpose Statement, as the measure received 76% approval with 296 in favor out of 402 votes cast. The revenue purpose statement authorizes the district to spend SAVE (Secure an Advanced Vision for Education) funds on infrastructure, including school safety, security, and technology.
