–The Algona Founder’s Day Committee is still seeking candidates for two new awards that will be handed out during this year’s celebration. Joanne Roepke Bod serves on the Founder’s Day committee, and she tells KLGA News they decided to make some changes to the Heritage Award that had been part of the celebration for many years, as the criteria for candidates was demanding.

The Heritage Award has now been rebranded into a pair of awards, the Spirit of Algona Youth Award and the Algona Impact Award. Roepke Bode says the youth award is aimed at students or young people aged 18 and under that are doing remarkable things.

Nominations will now be accepted until 4 PM on Friday, June 26th. Roepke Bode says the awards will be handed out on Thursday, July 9th prior to the Voices from the Past event at Riverview Cemetery.

Nomination forms are available at City Hall or the Algona Chamber of Commerce and online at www.algonaiowa.gov or www.algona.org. For more information, you can call city hall at 515-295-2411 or the chamber at 515-295-7201.
