–A Lakota man and two emergency dispatchers were honored Monday for the role they played in saving two young men following a car-train collision in northern Kossuth County earlier this month. During a ceremony Monday afternoon in Algona, Sheriff Roger Fisher recognized the efforts made on the afternoon of July 14th that prevented any loss of life.
Fisher noted the Horak immediately called 911 after witnessing the accident.
Horak quickly pulled 16-year-old Hunter Blocker and his 12-year-old brother Owen from the vehicle, putting his own life in danger.
Fisher presented Horak with the department’s Life Saving Award and thanked him for his bravery.

Fisher also recognized a pair of dispatchers that work in the law enforcement center who were working on the afternoon of July 14th.
Algona Mayor Rick Murphy addressed those in attendance during Monday’s ceremony, as the dispatchers are city employees that serve all county law enforcement and emergency personnel.
Fisher presented Monica Preuschl and Terese Becker with the Outstanding Performance Award for how they conducted themselves when every second mattered.

Both of the young men involved in the collision were in attendance Monday and are expected to make a full recovery.
