–Two more cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza have been reported in Iowa as migrating birds bring the risk to flocks across the state.

According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS), the latest cases were confirmed Monday in Pocahontas and Guthrie counties. On Friday, the state saw it’s first confirmed case since March, when an outbreak was confirmed in a commercial turkey flock in Buena Vista County.

Officials say the Pocahontas County case is in a commercial turkey flock, while the Guthrie County case is in a backyard flock.

IDALS is reminding both commercial and backyard flock owners to prevent contact between their birds and wild birds. Sick birds or unusual deaths among birds should be reported immediately to both state and federal officials.
