–Two of the five candidates seeking the GOP’s nomination for Governor took part in the North Iowa Republican Roundup Saturday at the Wilcox Performing Arts Center in Algona. Reverend Brad Sherman and State Legislator Eddie Andrews took time to talk about their campaigns and answer questions while on stage with Moderator Tamara Scott. Each candidate discussed the steps they would take to reduce state spending, something Sherman says can be accomplished with more personal accountability.
As well as serving in the state legislature, Andrews is a tech entrepreneur who advises corporations on how they can spend their money more effectively.
Each candidate was asked how they would meet Iowa’s increasing energy needs. Andrews says the state should invest in nuclear energy, as opposed to other renewable energy sources like wind and solar.
Sherman also supports an investment in nuclear energy, saying advances in technology make it safer and more efficient.
Adam Steen joined Sherman and Andrews at an event in Clear Lake on Saturday, but he did not attend the forum in Algona that was hosted by Republican leaders from Kossuth, Emmet, Hancock, Humboldt, Palo Alto, and Winnebago counties. Congressman Randy Feenstra had a staff member in attendance but did not appear himself. Eastern Iowa farmer Zach Lahn is fifth Republican in the Gubernatorial race.
