–Organizers with Saturday’s Algona Band Day festival are asking parade entries not to throw candy in the area where the bands will be judged in an effort to prevent any unfortunate incidents. Amy Whitacre with the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce tells KLGA News they are trying to keep the block of State Street between Moore and Dodge Streets as clear as possible as this is where the bands competing on Saturday will be evaluated.
It can be tempting for young children to run out and grab any pieces of candy that are still on the ground as a band approaches, but Whitacre says that’s not the only safety concern behind their request.
Whitacre says there is still plenty of room along the parade route for youngsters to grab any of the goodies being handed out on Saturday.
Organizers hope that cooperation between parade entries and the public can help make sure everyone stays safe and band members can give their best performance without fear or running into someone or stepping on something that could cause a problem. The band day parade begins at 1 PM and will run along State Street from the Algona Fire Station all the way through the downtown area.
