–A former state Legislator from southeast Iowa brought his campaign for Governor to Kossuth County this week, as he continues to speak with voters across the state. Brad Sherman is a Pastor from Williamsburg who served in the Iowa House from 2023-2025. Sherman has family in the Algona area, and during an interview with KLGA News, he discussed what made him throw his hat in to the race for Governor.
Governor Reynolds had not made a decision about whether she would seek reelection when Sherman made the decision to run, a decision he told her about prior to publicly announcing his bid.
Sherman describes himself as a strong constitutional conservative who can reach across the aisle.
Since announcing his run back in February, Sherman has visited nearly 30 of Iowa’s 99 counties to bring his message to the voters, where he hears many of the same concerns.
Sherman says his opposition to the use of eminent domain is something that makes him stand out from many of the other candidates who are also seeking the GOP nomination, including Congressman Randy Feenstra.
A handful of Senate Republicans forced a debate and vote on a pipeline related bill during the recently completed legislative session after not discussing the topic over the last few years. Sherman says he is a little concerned about the divide between Republicans on this issue.
Sherman attended an event Monday evening at the Water’s Edge Nature Center to speak with area residents for the first time as a gubernatorial candidate. He plans to hit all of Iowa’s 99 counties by the end of the year, and then start around a second time in advance of next June’s GOP Primary. At this time, Sherman is one of 3 declared Republican candidates, along with Congressman Feenstra and State Representative Eddie Andrews. State Senator Mike Bousselot has formed an exploratory committee, suggesting he may run, while Attorney General Brenna Bird is another potential candidate.
