–The Algona City Council approved the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year during their meeting this week. During a public hearing held prior to the vote, City Administrator Jacob Tjaden addressed the council and outlined the property tax levy for the 2026-2027 budgeting year.
The city will bring in a little over $20 Million in revenues in the next fiscal year, and Tjaden says property taxes make up a smaller portion of that total than people may think.
Over 75% of the city’s budget goes towards public safety (police, fire), public works (roads and bridges) and recreation (parks, library).
