–Summit Carbon Solutions announced changes to their proposed pipeline project Wednesday that would remove multiple segments across Iowa and move the final destination of the liquified carbon they plan to transport.

In a news release, the company states that they are refining portions of the proposed project footprint in Iowa to focus on the strongest and most efficient path forward, helping to accelerate progress towards construction.

A filing to the Iowa Utilities Commission shows that Summit plans to remove proposed routes in Shelby, Pottawattamie, Montgomery, Adams, Page, Fremont, Mitchell, and Worth counties, while also reducing pipeline mileage in Crawford, Floyd, Sioux, and Dickinson counties. In total, the changes will remove more than 400 landowners from the project and reduce the overall scope of the project by 200 miles.

This route would still travel through Kossuth County, as the Valero Ethanol Plant near Lakota and Poet Biorefining of Emmetsburg are still involved with the pipeline project.

Initially, the pipeline was to travel to North Dakota where the sequestered CO2 was to be deposited underground. The updated route will now send the pipeline through Nebraska with a dedicated sequestration site in Wyoming.
