–A former Middle School teacher in Humboldt has been taken into custody as the result of an investigation into a possible sexual relationship between the teacher and a student.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies were made aware of the alleged relationship in September of 2023, when the student was under the age of 16. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation was asked to assist with the case in October, helping to conduct numerous interviews and serve multiple search warrants.

The investigation uncovered physical evidence, videos, instant messages and physical contact between the two, dating back to June of 2022, when the student was only 14 years old.

On Monday (Feb. 26), the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Samantha Meyer-Davis of Rutland on charges of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse (Class C Felony) and Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee (Class D Felony). Meyer-Davis turned herself in to law enforcement after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was able to post a $15,000 cash bond and will make an initial appearance in Humboldt County District Court on Thursday (Feb. 29). A no contact order has also been issued to prevent Meyer-Davis from having any contact with the student.

The Humboldt School Board accepted Meyer-Davis’ resignation during a special meeting back on December 6th.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation were assisted by the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Humboldt Police Department, and administrators from the Humboldt Community School District.
