–Awards that recognize nurses and staff members who go above and beyond in their service to patients at Kossuth Regional Health Center were handed out during a ceremony Tuesday morning.
The DAISY Award is given each year to a nurse who provides extraordinary and compassionate care to patients and their families each day. The BEE Award is given to staff members from any non-nurse discipline who help provide a remarkable patient experience at KRHC.
This year’s DASIY Award was given to Serena Reemtsma, a Registered Nurse with the Hospice of the Heartland Program. Reemtsma has been serving patients at KRHC for 10 years and was nominated multiple times for this year’s award. One nomination mentioned that Reemtsma consistently goes above and beyond to help patients fulfill their final goals, no matter how big or small, ensuring their final days are meaningful, comfortable, and filled with dignity.

Reemtsma was one of 32 nurses who were nominated for this year’s DAISY Award.
This year’s BEE Award was given to Karla Schutter, the Administrative Assistant in the Community Health and Hospice Department. Schutter was nominated by multiple team members and was described in one nomination form as the glue that holds the staff together and keeps each program running smoothly.

Schutter was one of 22 staff members nominated for the BEE Award.
Nominations for the DAISY and BEE Awards are accepted throughout the year and can be made by patients, families, coworkers, or anyone who has witnessed a great nurse or staff member in action. Forms are available in the hospital lobby or online at www.krhc.com.
