–An Algona man is facing a felony-level drunk driving charge following an alleged incident Sunday evening.

A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court says law enforcement received the report of a possible drunk driver at Smith Lake just before 7:30 PM. Upon arrival, Deputies were told by witnesses that 43-year-old Chad Behounek had backed his truck into a parked vehicle and smelled of alcohol at the time.

The complaint also notes that the smell of alcohol was present when Behounek was interviewed, and he was asked by law enforcement officials if he would consent to a field sobriety test. Deputies say that while initially hesitant, Behounek eventually agreed and showed signs of intoxication, prompting a breathalyzer exam, which registered above the legal limit.

Behounek was arrested on a charge of OWI 3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Class D Felony. He was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance.

Online records show Behounek is scheduled to have a preliminary court hearing on June 11th.
