Burt Man Killed in Humboldt County Crash

–A Burt man was killed when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a semi in rural Humboldt County Wednesday evening.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 29-year-old Taylor Lee Chance was traveling eastbound along 110th Street in a 2007 Mack Concrete Truck, about 2 miles west of Ottosen around 5 PM Wednesday. The accident report states that as Chance was entering the intersection with Iowa Highway 15, he was struck broadside by a 2022 Freightliner semi, driven by 27-year-old Shane Edward Stanton of Philadelphia, Mississippi.

The report indicates that Stanton failed to yield the right of way to Chance’s vehicle. The accident remains under investigation.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Sheriff’s Deputies from Kossuth, Humboldt, Palo Alto and Pocahontas counties, Fire and EMS Departments from Bode, Ottosen, Gilmore City and Humboldt, along with Unity Point Health Life Flight.
