–An Algona woman is facing charges following a traffic stop late Saturday night.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies received the report of a possible drunk driver in the rural Algona area just before 10 PM Saturday. Deputies responded to the area and located a black 2017 Ford F150 truck, driven by 45-year-old Jolene Mae Thompson of Algona near the intersection of US Highways 169 and 18.
A criminal complaint field in Kossuth County District Court states that Deputies observed Thompson driving erratically and well under the posted speed limit. After conducting a traffic stop, Deputies noted the smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and that Thompson had watery eyes and slurred speech as she spoke with officers.
After Deputies conducted a field sobriety test, the complaint goes on to say that Thompson refused a breathalyzer exam and was taken into custody on charges of OWI-1st offense. Thompson is also facing 2 counts of Child Endangerment as two children were present in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.
Thompson was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance. She is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, September 9th Kossuth County District Court.
