–An agreement has been reached between the City of Algona and the Kossuth County Fair board that will pave the way to open a new concessions building near the grandstand. It was announced last Friday (8/7) that the opening would be delayed because the proper permits for the facility were not filed with the city. Fair Board spokesperson Morgan Wagner tells KLGA News they were caught off guard when they learned of the permit issue.
The statement released by the city on Friday says that plans for the building were not provided until July 29th, less than a week before the start of the county fair. Wagner says that while the ball was dropped on securing the proper permits, there was never a zoning problem with the new building.
Members of the fair board and the contractor for the project met with city officials Wednesday to discuss the situation. Wagner says they are working to get the proper inspections for the building completed in the coming weeks.
Once the concession area is completed, Wagner says they are hopeful work on the grandstand itself can begin.
If the weather cooperates, Wagner says they anticipate work on the new grandstand could be completed by April 1st of 2027.
